Citavi Latex Bibliography And References

Importing a BibTeX File

Citavi can import and export bibliographic information in BibTeX format. A typical BibTeX entry looks like this:

@book{Handke.2006,

 year = {2006},

 title = {The virtual linguistics campus: Strategies and concepts for successful e-learning},

 address = {M\"unster},

 publisher = {Waxmann},

 isbn = {978-3-8309-1689-5},

 editor = {Handke, J\"urgen and Franke, Peter}

}

Importing a BibTeX File

  • Many web-based databases support direct export to Citavi. See Importing References in a Standard Format for additional information.
  • If you have a BibTeX file (with the .bib file name extension) on your computer already, double-click it to start the import or drag it into the navigation pane in the Reference Editor.

Exporting to BibTeX

You need a BibTeX file to create publications with TeX. You can also use BibTeX files to share bibliographic information with users of other reference management programs.

Exporting to BibTeX

  1. In the Reference Editor on the File menu, click Export.
  2. Choose which references to export, then click Next.
  3. Select BibTeX, then click Next.
  4. Choose whether you want to copy the BibTeX data to the Clipboard or if you want to save it as a text file. If you choose Save to text file, click Browse, enter a name and location for the file, and click Save.
  5. If you want, select additional BibTeX export options.
  6. If you want, select the option to only export references cited in a specific TeX document.
  7. Click Next. Choose whether you want to save the export preset for future exports, then click Next.

By default, Citavi exports the contents of any field that is defined as required or optional for the reference type in BibTeX. You can customize the BibTeX export as needed.
